Mission Rock

The Giants are leading the Mission Rock mixed-use development that is changing San Francisco (but not yet the team)

The San Francisco Giants' Mission Rock project is a groundbreaking endeavor that's transforming the waterfront landscape of the city. This $3 billion public-private partnership, in conjunction with Tishman Speyer and the Port of San Francisco, aims to create a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood adjacent to the team's iconic Oracle Park.

A Visionary Approach

The Giants' commitment to this project extends beyond the ballpark. They see Mission Rock as a community asset, a place where people can live, work, and play. The development will feature residential units, office space, retail shops, restaurants, and ample green spaces. This integrated approach is a departure from traditional sports-centric developments and sets a new standard for urban planning.

“These mega developments, to me, are the last town squares left in our society, in that tens of thousands of people, and millions over time, are coming to the venue; they’re coming to walk and see where splash homers are hit; they’re going to shop in the new retail stores; they’re going to events at the Chase Center, and they’re getting along” said Andy Dolich, a former executive with the Oakland A's and San Francisco 49ers.

Challenges and Triumphs

The project has faced its share of challenges, including the high cost of construction, economic fluctuations, and the delicate balance of attracting visitors without overwhelming the neighborhood. However, the Giants and their partners have persevered, leveraging their expertise and community engagement to overcome these obstacles.

Economic Impact and Community Benefits

Mission Rock is expected to have a significant economic impact on San Francisco. It will create jobs, generate revenue, and enhance the city's attractiveness as a destination. The development is also designed to benefit the community through affordable housing, public spaces, and educational programs.

Future Plans

While the initial phase of Mission Rock has been successful, the project is far from complete. The Giants and Tishman Speyer are actively working on the next phase, which will include additional buildings and amenities. The long-term goal is to create a thriving, sustainable neighborhood that enriches the lives of residents and visitors alike.
